Stand-up paddling on Lake Harkort is great. From the lake you have a great view along wonderful green banks, up to Wetter Castle and the old town, you can paddle to the impressive Ruhr Viaduct in Herdecke, enjoy the light wind and the warm sun. We recommend the long tour to the viaduct to enjoy the lake in its entirety. A great way to have a great time with friends and loved ones. And the best thing is: the SUPs are ready and waiting for you in our vending machine right on the shore of the lake – no lugging around, no exhausting pumping up. Just arrive and paddle away. 1.5-hour route – 3km
The short SUP route on Lake Harkort leads through the Obergraben and back on the lake past the former marina. You start on the shore below the Wetter natural outdoor pool, directly at the location of our SUP machine. From the start, paddle out onto the lake a little and away from the shore before turning right towards the Obergraben bridges. As soon as you are under the bridges, you will reach the Obergraben – a narrower watercourse that is well suited to a quiet, natural route. Follow the ditch leisurely to the end. Turn around there with your board. Ride back under the bridges onto the open lake and paddle around to the right in a north-westerly direction. You will pass the former marina on the western shore, which is barely recognizable because it is now so overgrown with greenery. From there you have a great view of the town and hill opposite. A small loop there makes the route perfect. If you still have time and feel like it, you can paddle further up the lake back across the lake. Once you arrive at the outdoor pool, you can jump straight into the water, relax on the shore or sit down for a drink in the restaurant on the lakeside square.
3-hour route – 6km
The SUP route around the shores of Lake Harkort to high up under the Ruhr viaduct in Herdecke is our big recommendation! You start on the shore below the Wetter natural outdoor pool, directly at the location of our SUP machine. After starting on the shore, you paddle leisurely out onto the lake towards the former marina on the other side, which is barely recognizable because it is so overgrown with greenery. From there you have a great view of the town and the hill for the first time. From the green harbor, paddle further north, where the imposing viaduct soon appears. This spot is a real highlight! Depending on time, mood and current, you can paddle further up the Ruhr. Then turn around and paddle back along the western bank. You’ll always have a great view of the town of Wetter and the viaduct behind you. Once you arrive back at the outdoor pool, you can jump straight into the water, relax on the bank or in the outdoor pool or sit down for a drink in the restaurant on the lakeside square.
