Freundschaftsinsel is located directly at Potsdam’s city harbor and on the Havel federal waterway—passenger ships, recreational boats, and some commercial vessels operate here. Please note:
• Cross the shipping lane quickly and at a right angle; do not linger in it
• Large vessels have the right of way—keep your distance due to wake and waves
• Paddle as close to the edge as possible or outside the shipping lane
• Pay special attention to boats entering and leaving the harbor
• Life jacket recommended
Short Tour – Around the Island (approx. 30–45 min.)
A leisurely trip around Friendship Island: calm waters, gardens along the shore, and views of the city from all sides. Ideal for beginners, families, and anyone who just wants to get out for a bit. Grab a board, take a lap, and head back to the station.
Longer Tour – Toward Babelsberg (approx. 2–3 hrs.)
Head east from the island into Tiefer See, then along the lakeside parks of Park Babelsberg (UNESCO World Heritage Site)—past Babelsberg Palace to the Glienicker Bridge and back again. Scenically, this is the most beautiful route Potsdam has to offer from the water. For experienced paddlers and anyone in decent shape.
